Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

Helping young people find out more about Shropshire’s wildlife

Growing Confidence

The Growing Confidence project helps young people  discover more about wildife and wild places and have fun learning skills in their local environment.

FSC Preston Montford is working in partnership with Shropshire Wildlife Trust, Fordhall Community Land Initiative and the Plunkett Foundation.

Our events and courses will give you the chance to work with experts to learn more about the wildlife of Shropshire and develop specialist skills. If you are interested in wildlife and the natural world then FSC Preston Montford has got lots of activities and courses which will help you increase your knowledge and build your CV to help you stand out from the crowd.

How to get involved

We have regular day events at FSC Preston Montford for people aged 15-25 when we focus on specific species or habitats. So far this year we have had a look at tree identification, studied our bee hotel and you can find out about all our future events on the Growing Confidence project calendar below.

Each Wednesday from late spring to early autumn you can get involved in species monitoring and surveying – looking at what the night's catch from our live moth trap and recording the bumblebees and butterflies around the estate.

You can read about what we have been getting up to on some of our previous events Wildlife spotting and What is a hedge

If you are interested in any of the events just email [email protected]
