Join us on the Field Studies Council Youtube Channel for 3 fieldwork videos which aim to build skills and prepare students to tackle their Independent Investigations at A Level.

After each 45-minute video there will be the opportunity for 15 minutes of Q&A.

Tuesday 30th June: Interpreting the Landscape at 4pm

  • This video will explore how students can build their skills to ‘think like a geographer’.
  • Students will first be introduced to a range of activities that can help to broaden and deepen understanding of a location.
  • Secondly, tools for developing a framework for questions development will be introduced.
  • Students will finally consider the role of secondary to further develop interpretation of a location and inform investigation design.

Wednesday 1st July: Physical Geoskills at 4pm

  • This video will build knowledge, skills and understanding of physical fieldwork methods and investigation design.
  • Concepts of sampling, ethics and rigour will be discussed in physical fieldwork settings.
  • Students will be introduced to a range of physical fieldwork methods and consider ways of personalising and modifying methods.
  • The value of quantitative data will be explored, before signposting to further resources and other physical fieldwork methods.

Thursday 2nd Jul: Human Geoskills at 4pm

  • This video will build knowledge, skills and understanding of human fieldwork methods and investigation design.
