The 2022 Commonwealth Games will be taking place from 28th July – 8th August in Birmingham. The games happen every four years and will see athletes from across the Commonwealth represent their country and compete in a variety of different sports.

Athletes will have trained for years to compete in this years Commonwealth Games, dedicating hours of training in the hope they can achieve personal records or even place to receive a medal.

The city of Birmingham have also been planning for the event since December 2017, when they found out they would be the 2022 hosts. You can hope to see swimming and diving at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Athletics at Alexander Stadium, Hockey at the University of Birmingham and even Cannock Chase for the cycling and mountain biking.

Preston Montford is only around an hour away from the majority of these venues, so we’ve opened up our rooms to accommodate sports fans visiting the games. It offers an ideal base for those also looking to relax in the Shropshire countryside, away from the crowds.

The centre benefits from large grounds, free parking, free Wifi and breakfast included making it a comfortable and convenient choice.

Preston Montford Field Centre

Situated in the heart of Shropshire, the field centre sits on the banks of the River Severn with views into Wales. The Centre is set in a 12-hectare estate which is managed to provide a rich range of habitats, including the River Severn Montford SSSI – semi-ancient woodland growing on a steep bank of glacial drift. Most of the area is grazed fields with hedges, 18th century specimen trees and some more recently planted copses. The eastern side of the estate is an area of more specialised habitats; ponds, wildflower meadow, ancient orchard, the remains of a walled garden and a bee hotel.

Preston Montford is a popular location for geography and biology studies for all ages. The field centre is used for educational residential trips for schools, natural history courses for adult learners and young people as well as creative courses inspired by the local landscape.
