At the Field Studies Council, we believe every garment should tell a story—a story of nature, care, and sustainability. That’s why our sustainable clothing with Teemill ensures our tees aren’t just eco-friendly; they’re purpose-driven from fibre to finish.

It starts with organic cotton

Cotton has been grown in India for thousands of years—and for good reason. It’s natural, durable, easy to dye, and incredibly comfortable to wear. Our sustainable t-shirts and sweatshirts are 100% organic cotton because it’s better for the planet and far easier to recycle than mixed fabrics.

The organic cotton is grown in Gujarat, northern India, where monsoon rains naturally fill reservoirs, providing water for the crops without the need for irrigation. It’s cultivated without harmful pesticides or synthetic fertilisers—Teemills’ farmers instead use natural fertilisers like cow manure. Even the cotton seeds left over from ginning are pressed to feed cattle, creating a circle within their circular supply chain. Ginning is the process of separating cotton fibres from the seeds and other debris after the cotton has been harvested.

Once harvested, the cotton is sent to Tamil Nadu in southern India, where it’s spun into yarn and woven into fabric in some of the most advanced spinning facilities in the world. Every batch is tested for purity and strength before being transformed into the ethical, organic cotton clothing you find in our Teemill store.

The result? A fabric that’s soft, breathable, and durable, perfect for long days outdoors or relaxed weekends at home.

Made on demand to avoid waste

Unlike fast fashion, our clothing is printed to order. That means each t-shirt or sweatshirt is only made when you choose it, reducing overproduction, preventing waste, and ensuring no unwanted stock ends up in landfill.

It’s fashion that’s led by demand, not mass production.

Powered by renewable energy

Every stage of the production process, from printing to packaging, is powered by renewable energy. Designs are applied using water-based inks that are free from toxic chemicals, ensuring our prints are safe for you and the environment.

This commitment to clean energy helps lower our carbon footprint and keeps our production as eco-friendly as possible.

Plastic free

We believe sustainable clothing should be sustainable in every detail. That’s why all our items are shipped in plastic-free packaging—recyclable, biodegradable, and better for our oceans.

“There is limited space on Earth, and filling it with over 2 billion tons of waste a year doesn’t seem to us the best use of the space.”

Closing the loop in a circular fashion

We believe that well-made clothing should last. By using high-quality materials, Temill can extend the life of every garment. Sadly, in today’s linear fashion system, most clothes are worn fewer than 10 times before being thrown away—wasting the materials, energy, and skill that went into making them.

That’s why Teemill needed a better solution—one that would let them reuse all those valuable resources to create new clothing from the old.

From the very beginning, our clothing with Teemill can be returned when worn out and remade into something new. This circular process is called Remill. With Remill, t-shirts and sweatshirts can be designed, worn, returned, remade, and reprinted—again and again.

Every item comes with a tag and barcode. Customers can scan the barcode on their Teemill clothing or visit their Remill Circular Fashion page. Once they enter their email address, they’ll receive step-by-step instructions on how to send their item back to our UK t-shirt factory. Teemill cover the cost of UK shipping, and customers receive a discount code for their next purchase.

So far, this system has already recovered over 86,000 kg of clothing—proof that together, we can keep clothing in use and out of landfill.

Why this matters

Choosing eco-friendly clothing means reducing waste, protecting habitats, and making a positive impact on the planet. By wearing our t-shirts, you’re supporting ethical clothing production in the UK and helping us inspire the next generation of nature lovers.
