This Adventures in Shropshire course is for young people aged between 16 and 18 years old who are interested in the outdoors, the adventurous activities that it can offer and have an interest in working to conserve it.
This course is for young people aged between 16 and 18 years old with a sense of adventure.
Throughout the week, you will take part in a variety of activities to discover and explore this special county. Challenges might include hillwalking, climbing, orienteering, bushcraft and canoeing.
This course is suitable for the residential section of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Always check with your leader before booking.

Courses are led by experienced Field Studies Council staff.
Example Timetable
Please note that the weather, location, and season can affect activities, so this is only an example timetable.
Day 1
Arrive 12:00. Team building, ice-breaker and a walk around the centre grounds.
Evening: Course introduction.
Day 2
Hill Walking – We will head into the Shropshire Hills for a hike along the Stiperstones NNR ridge – a 7km hike in dramatic scenery with views across to Snowdonia.
Evening: Short course orienteering around the Preston Montford campus.
Day 3
A visit to Carding Mill Valley, Long Mynd, Shropshire Hills. A hike up to the highest waterfall in Shropshire and an orienteering session (map and compass).
Evening: Wildlife rescuers – a fun activity, constructing a device to prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a height.
Day 4
½ day using our adventure area (climbing tower, low ropes course, bouldering traverse, peg pole challenge). ½ day canoeing (either on the River Severn or a local canal).
Evening: Campfire
Day 5
Bushcraft – shelter building and fire lighting in the Preston Montford woodland. We may also fins time to have a go at our rocket launching challenge.

Before You Attend
A kit list will be sent out via email. All technical equipment will be provided.
This residential is only open to young people who will be aged 16 - 18 years old at the time of attending.
We want to ensure participants get to share in their experience with those of a similar age. Please consider what age the attendee will be on the course date and check they fit into the age category when booking.
If the attendee is under 18, the booking must be made by a parent/guardian. When you book, it is essential that you enter the age and attendees name in the Order Notes at the checkout.
When attending the residential dates which welcome 16-18 year olds, all participants will be expected to follow the behaviour and conduct rules which will be in place to safeguard young people.
