Another interesting and stimulating week with a friendly group and George his knowledgeable and patient best. The new sandwich making arrangements are a distinct improvement, and the standard of catering is as good as ever (the Thai green curry was particularly noteworthy, and the vegetarian leek and mushroom pie deserves an honourable mention. The sad part is that there is no evidence that the management has given any thought to purchasing equipment so that George doesn’t have to lug an entire workshop’s worth of kit across three counties, nor is there any evidence of succession planning: when George retires it may be the end of bookbinding at Flatford, which would be a real loss.
