Steve Piotrowski definitely knows his birds – and his location. This is his stamping ground when he’s not globetrotting, so I’d recommend it wholeheartedly. It got me started with birding, although I’ve also found the BTO’s Malham weekend course equally useful. Go to Suffolk to see specialities of the area and also make time to visit Minsmere (provided Springwatch isn’t/hasn’t just been there, or encouraging thousands of lookie-loos). I’d go on this again in 2-3 years – think I’d get more out of it once I’ve more experience – and appreciate it more. Worth the several hours drive to get there.
Our group was hard work, but Steve took it in his stride.

Good catering and excellent bar (full marks for local Aspall’s cider – not dreadful Magners/Bulmers bile). Rooms a bit odd – like living in a model village.
