Example Timetable

The schedule for the week is flexible and may change around to account for the weather and/or other factors, but this is the outline plan.

Day one

Arrival and welcome – The session will begin at 4pm, so please arrive from midday onwards. Welcome tour of the centre with your tutor. Ice breakers and team building activities.
Mammals and Moths - Have a go at setting up humane mammal and moth traps ready for us to see what has visited us in the morning.

Day two

Mammals and Moths - Discover what has been out at night in our centre grounds by opening our small mammal and moth traps. Learn how traps are used for scientific monitoring and what happens with the data collected.

Mini beast river survey - Find out about the rivers’ curious creatures and their habitats. Learn a key technique to monitor freshwater invertebrates in rivers. Investigate and identify the invertebrates found.

Shelter building - Explore a Welsh Celtic woodland and gather natural materials to build a shelter in the woods.

Day three

A big day out in the wild in Cwm Idwal National Nature Reserve. We will be walking in this spectacular post-glacial landscape with nature spotting guides. We will practice our navigation skills using maps and compasses, and we will enjoy lunch out. You will travel to the area in a minibus, so please bring appropriate child seats for your children to use for this journey.
Campfire - Come join us for an evening around the campfire on the estate grounds. Toast some marshmallows and have a good time with your new friends.

Day four

Environmental art – Collect pieces of nature in the local Celtic woodland for an Art project in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

Bushcraft - Develop skills for living out in the wild landscapes of Wales.

Orienteering - Complete an orienteering course set up around the Centre grounds using a map and developing map skills.

This session will finish at 2 pm. Wave goodbye to new friends.
