A ‘step by step’ programme of exercises and demonstrations designed to help and encourage complete beginners and more experienced artists. With help and guidance from the tutor, participants will be able to construct several finished sketches using various techniques, culminating in an end of course exhibition of their achievements.
Benton End
During this course you will be spending some time at Benton End.
It was once the home of The East Anglian School of Art where the likes of Maggie Hambling and Lucian Freud began their artistic journeys, all under the watchful eye of Cedric Morris and partner Arthur Lett-Haines (known as Lett).
It is a rare opportunity for access to this iconic building while it is the process of being brought back to life. It is not currently open to the public, but Flatford Mill has acquired private access for you to be able to explore, sketch, paint and/or photograph the building and gardens.
The gardens were once home to Cedrics prize collection of Irises and there are plans to return as many as possible to the site.
If you would like to read more before your visit there is a wealth of information on the website: https://bentonend.co.uk/
About the tutor
Carl March
A professional artist and qualified teacher with over 30 years experience teaching adults. He enjoys working in different media and particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge with others. His teaching experiences have taken him to many beautiful places in the UK and further afield, including working on a cruise ship as a visiting art lecturer.
About Flatford Mill
We have four buildings that are used for visitor accommodation. Whilst most rooms are either en-suite or have a dedicated bathroom, there are some
rooms in The Mill that share showers and toilets at the end of the hall. If this is
un-suitable for you please make the office staff aware upon booking or as soon as possible.
Please be aware that you are visiting a Field Centre that caters in the main for school parties; the accommodation is basic and dormitory style, but warm and comfortable.
Explore our range of drawing and sketching courses hosted by our engaging tutors and learn from their expertise and skills. Our art courses are a chance to meet like-minded people and a chance to unwind from everyday life. They are a great opportunity to experience the UK’s glorious countryside surrounding our field centres.
This course is open to participants aged 18 and over only. For under-18s, please contact the centre directly or see our young people courses and activities for families.
