Nearly half of children in the UK are missing out on school trips due to the cost. That’s over 4.5 million missed opportunities to enjoy an outdoor learning experience.

A residential trip can be transformational in so many ways. We are known for our expertise in environmental education and there is not a subject that can’t be brought to life by taking children out of the classroom. But equally important is what children learn about themselves on a visit.

Challenging activities and the UK’s famously unpredictable weather build resilience and confidence. Group tasks improve communication and teamwork skills. New connections are made as children spend quality time with their peers, away from screens. Horizons are broadened as their break from their routines; for some children, a trip to a field centre is their first night away from home and the first time they have left their town or city.

“I loved learning about nature and being outdoors. It felt different from normal lessons as we were actually exploring the environment.” – Pupil

No young person should miss out on an outdoor learning experience due to the cost.

Almost half of children risk are being left behind due to their personal circumstances. They are missing out on the chance to get outside and explore; to get muddy and wet; to learn about nature, in nature.

A donation to our “Every Child Outdoors” appeal will help close the gap and help us say yes to more requests for support. Whether a school needs some funding to reduce the cost of a trip or wants to offer free places to ensure a whole class can attend, your generosity will help more young people take part.

Just £35 could pay for a place on a day trip to an outdoor learning centre. However, any amount you contribute will help fund a transformational trip for someone at risk of missing out.

“Seeing my students thrive outdoors has transformed my perspective. I’ve witnessed increased confidence, teamwork, and curiosity in ways that don’t always surface in the classroom.” – Teacher

Let’s get more young people out of the classroom and into nature, and get “Every Child Outdoors” .
