This course was led by a real expert and the weekend was fun and educational. I have left the weekend knowing how to set up a moth trap on trees and have already ordered a moth ID book. The course was split between moth ID in the classroom and field work around Flatford Mill and in a local woodland. I had no idea there were so many moths and so many groups but the tutor had simple methods to learn the groups. Students attending inspired me to apply for the MSC in Biological Recording.
The only tiny negative was the long classroom session identifying moths on Sunday morning while the students were taking their exam. For me it was a very long 3 hours – perhaps look at a bit more variety that morning such as a bit more teaching or some sort of very local fieldwork.
