Darllen yn y Gymraeg

Can be booked as a stand-alone course or combined with the Fieldwork Day

At Field Studies Council we know that the new WJEC geography fieldwork assessment at GCSE will require schools to change how they deliver fieldwork.  We have worked closely with WJEC subject advisers to plan fieldwork courses to take the stress out of these changes and support Welsh schools to complete the NEA for each year of submission.

We are offering two individual day courses that allow students to take part in:

  • Skills day: build skills around the 6-stages of enquiry for Unit 2
  • Fieldwork day: reflect and plan, using our online support material, for their fieldwork data collection.

Students will be prepared for their fieldwork enquiry through a series of classroom and outdoor activities which guide them through the 6-stage process.

The topic of the skills day will be relevant to the main fieldwork investigation for the topic chosen in the year of submission, facilitating the students to plan their fieldwork for the NEA.

Available at our centres in Wales and Shropshire, you can view the choice of topics here.

Example timetable

This course usually runs from 10am – 4pm, but times can be adjusted to suit your group and travel plans.

During your visit you will be welcomed to the centre and given an appropriate health and safety briefing. Your session will start with an introduction to the day, aims and objectives. Students will undertake classroom sessions to guide them through the process of Task 1 (planning an investigation), then practice fieldwork techniques in the centre grounds to undertake parts of Task 2 including sampling approaches and data collection techniques. Follow up will include data presentation, analysis and conclusion drawing techniques with evaluative methods to guide students through the 6-stage process.

Please note that specific activities for your group are subject to change. We go out in all weathers and seasons and will tailor the content of the day accordingly.
