This weekend course creates the perfect opportunity for students to actively engage with their Geography revision.

Specific activities within the programme will encourage students to become motivated, focussed and effective with their revision. Alongside scheduled time to refresh through sessions to be active and un-wind.

Students will spend time visiting physical and human environments aiding in the revision of topic content alongside understanding of the fieldwork enquiries.

Workshops in the course will develop students’ revision strategies and confidence in tackling exam questions.

Example Timetable

This course will be tailored to the topics, fieldwork and needs of the students. FSC staff will work closely with visiting teachers, drawing on and using the expertise of both to co-deliver and tailor this course.

Day 1

Morning

Arrive Midday
  • Students greeted by FSC staff.
  • Welcome talk and Centre tour.
  • Pre-course meeting between FSC staff and teachers.
  • Allocation of wellies/waterproofs

Afternoon

Human Fieldwork Revision

Students will reflect on their human fieldwork enquiry. Re-visiting and developing their understanding of all stages of the enquiry process for this familiar fieldwork, with specific focus on justification and evaluation at all stages of the enquiry.

Human Environments Revision

Spending time in a human environment, students will engage and revise topic content related to human geography areas of study.

Evening

Active Revision Strategies

In this active and engaging session student will complete a carousel of revision activities with the aim of increasing subject knowledge, developing students understanding and higher thinking skills- justification and evaluation. Students will also develop personal revision skills and ideas.

Activity to Un-Wind Night Walk

This time will be devoted to encouraging students to consolidate their learning and help students to un-wind from the day. Students will have time to relax refreshing them for the day ahead.

Day 2

Morning

Physical Fieldwork (Familiar/Unfamiliar)

Students will reflect on their physical fieldwork enquiry. Re-visiting and developing their understanding of all stages of the enquiry process for this familiar fieldwork, with specific focus on justification and evaluation at all stages of the enquiry.

Physical Environment - Revision

Through immersion in the physical environment. Students will engage and revise topic content related to physical geography areas of study.

Afternoon

Exam-ready Workshop

Students will be encouraged to develop their skills in tackling exam questions. By increasing their understanding of the command words, decoding exam questions and being introduced to a variety of strategies to tackle exam questions, students will develop their confidence in exam techniques.

Active Activity

A chance to blow off steam, and refresh with a physical, energizing activity. The activity on offer will be location dependent.

Evening

Reflective Revision Study

Using the skills developed on the first day students will address their personal areas of challenge through individual study and revision.

Activity to Un-Wind Campfire

This time will be devoted to encouraging students to consolidate their learning and help students to un-wind from the day. Students will have time to relax refreshing them for the day ahead.

Day 3

Morning

Reflective Revision Study

Using the skills developed on the first day students will address their personal areas of challenge through individual study and revision.

Geography Helpdesk

Tailored support will be given to students throughout a morning of Geography Helpdesk support.

Afternoon

Depart Midday
