Our three-day residential covers key literacy and numeracy skills, focuses on promoting social and emotional development through experiencing a residential and promotes healthier lifestyles with active learning.

Example Timetable

Day 1

Morning

Arrive Midday
  • Students greeted by FSC staff.
  • Welcome talk and Centre tour.
  • Pre-course meeting between FSC staff and teachers.
  • Allocation of wellies/waterproofs

Afternoon

The Journey Begins

Students will explore and begin to gain a sense of place in their new location through activities such as designing and living in their own historic house. Based on their afternoon discoveries they will use vocabulary about their environment to create kennings and poetry. (Literacy)

Evening

Orienteering Challenge

Enjoy a fun, active outdoor orienteering challenge in small groups to explore the site and develop map and coordinate skills to complete
the task. At each marker learners will also have to answer a maths or sustainability question to progress. (Numeracy)

Day 2

Morning

Microclimates: Data and Graphs

We will journey into the local area near the Centre to see what its geography is like and take a variety of weather measurements. Data collected during the morning will be displayed using graphs in a variety of ways. (Numeracy)

Afternoon

Biodiversity: Presenting Information

After exploring the biodiversity of either a pond/river, rocky shore or centre grounds we will make a video focusing on an element of the natural world. In small groups students will script the piece and film it, and then using peer assessment we will review these,and reshoot based on this feedback. (Literacy)

Evening

Campfire and Review

Around the fire we will sing some traditional campfire songs and cook up some traditional campfire food whilst reviewing the last two days, reflecting on the highs and lows.

Day 3

Morning

Active Adventures

Find out how the outdoors can encourage active lifestyles and enjoy working as a team to develop skills. Activities include low ropes, blindfold trail or team challenges in and around the centre grounds. More adventurous options may be available at an additional cost. (Health and Wellbeing)

Afternoon

Depart Midday

A final farewell from FSC staff as the students depart at midday.
