Aimed at children aged 7 and above, these sessions are for children in home education groups. The sessions offer fun, exploration and development of skills in a natural environment. It will be a safe and happy environment for all children to learn grow and develop in a beautiful woodland setting whilst connecting with other like-minded families.
These forest school sessions are run by Helen Murray who is our qualified Level 3 Forest School and Level 3 Childcare Practitioner here at Amersham Field Centre. She has planned a range of sessions that cover the six principles of the Forest School ethos. Forest School recognises the importance of children’s contact with nature, and supports the concept that children should be allowed to play, explore, learn and develop outside, not just within the confines of a traditional classroom. Helen has had the pleasure of seeing firsthand how giving children opportunities in nature can promote their self-esteem, confidence and creativity. At Forest School children can develop an increased knowledge and understanding of the natural world and experience opportunities to develop their gross and fine motor skills, all while having enormous amounts of fun!
This is a hands-on learning experience in a natural setting. Activities will include use of ropes, building campfires, nature crafts, tree climbing, natural art, fire lighting, scavenger hunts, shelter building and woodland games.
The skills learned during these sessions can include tool use, managing risk, cooperation, team work, empathy and leadership skills.
