Tutor: Ruth Rutherford

Ruth Rutherford is a highly regarded creative designer maker, based in rural Suffolk. Having gained her design degree and worked for many years in ceramic and glass design, she has in recent years transposed her love of colour, form and nature into the world of textiles. Since working with fabrics, and in particular Pure Silk, she has developed her original style and techniques that are unique to her, using the ancient art of Shibori as a starting point, taking her inspirational pattern values and colour combinations from the amazing natural botanical world.

When not teaching or creating her silk designs she spends her time restoring her 500 year old Suffolk farmhouse to its former glory, using her skills of creativity and individuality. She is also designing and planting a Tudor kitchen garden, which as a novice gardener, is proving to be an exciting challenge.
