Join us for our volunteering days at Bishops Wood Centre.

Always been interested in nature and would like to have a go at practical habitat management activities? Would you like a taste of what practical conservation work is like? This is the day for you!

Volunteering is great for boosting your wellbeing, and being outside is proven to be good for both your mind and your body. It is a great way to connect with other like-minded people, can benefit your career, but most importantly, it is fun and fulfilling. 

We welcome people from all backgrounds and walks of life to join us! These volunteer days will be led by Field Studies Council Staff. Tools and training will be provided on the day. We will be working in the estate, used by the Field Studies Council for teaching and managed by Nature Recovery.

Whether it is your first time or you are more experienced, join us and make an impact.

Tasks may involve, but are not limited to:

  • Clearing vegetation and dense growth with hand tools, helping to re-establish plant and animal life and open up grassland
  • Coppicing young trees to allow more light to the floor
  • Planting of trees, native vegetation
  • Using what we have cut to create habitat piles for small animals and reptiles.
  • Creating and installing Bird, Bat boxes
  • Repairs to fences, rails etc.  

Before booking, please note:

  • Volunteer days are suitable for adults 18+
  • Activities are subject to change depending on the weather

What to bring

  • Packed lunch
  • Water
  • Personal medications, e.g., epi-pens, antihistamines, inhalers, etc.

What to wear

  • Outdoor clothes suitable for the weather and temperature
  • Outdoor footwear that can get wet, muddy or paint splattered (walking boots, wellies or old trainers are all suitable unless otherwise advised)
  • Waterproofs if it’s due to rain (we do not carry spare wet weather clothing)
  • Sun protection, where appropriate
