Criminal Records (Disclosure) Checks / Recruitment of Ex-Offenders
The activities of the Field Studies Council are regulated and so we are required to take all practicable steps to safeguard the safety and welfare of children and young adults while they are with us. All applicants are required to view the relevant Field Studies Council Code of Conduct and to confirm that they fully comply with the acceptance criteria for the post. This may include the completion of a confidentialCriminal Records Declaration form. Where a Disclosure check is deemed to be both proportionate and relevant to the role, the successful applicant will be required to satisfactorily undergo a Disclosure check with the relevant agency. The post classification and nature of the check required will be detailed in the vacancy pack for the post.
In addition, individuals from overseas are required to produce a satisfactory police check statement from their own country.
Field Studies Council will not discriminate unfairly against applicants who have a criminal record and will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment due to an unspent conviction; the nature of the conviction, the time elapsed, and its relevance to the post will be considered.

References
In line with our safeguarding policy, Field Studies Council requires two satisfactory references for all new employees. It is vital that you supply the names and contact details for two people who can act as referees: these should ideally be your current (or most recent) employer and your next most recent employer, or if this will be your first job, your teacher or other professional person. Family members or friends are not acceptable for this purpose and Field Studies Council will not normally accept references from non-professional email addresses, e.g. gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc.
