Preston Montford

Shropshire/Welsh Border

Preston Montford Field Centre

This delightful Queen Anne country house by the river Severn to the west of Shrewsbury is set in 12 hectares of grassland and woodland. It lies within easy reach of the north Shropshire meres and mosses, and the Welsh and Shropshire Hills with some of the most varied geology in Britain and a wide range of plants and animals.

Outdoor Classroom

Habitats range from woodlands, heather moorlands and grasslands to nutrient rich meres, upland and ponds and canals. For the geographer, glacial, periglacial and fluvial landforms complement the unique solid geology of the area - and a range of geology topics is available. Historic settlements such as Shrewsbury and Ludlow, and the new town of Telford are ideal for urban and settlement pattern studies. Ironbridge, ‘Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution’, is a short distance away.
