Slapton Ley Field Centre

Located on the Start Bay coast, the Centre is surrounded by the 200 hectare Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve. Owned by the Whitley Wildlife Trust and managed by the Centre, the Ley is the largest freshwater lake in the south west and is extensively used in the courses at Slapton. The surrounding coastline, Dartmoor National Park and coastal towns nearby provide unrivalled opportunities for field courses.

Outdoor Classroom

Slapton Ley is popular with GCSE, A Level and University groups. We provide geography fieldtrips and biology field work linked to Edexcel, AQA and OCR specifications for both A Level and GCSE. You can choose a standard FSC Programme with set arrival and departure dates or a Flexible Course that is tailored to your exact requirements. Many universities choose Slapton Ley because of the wealth of research and data available for the National Nature Reserve combined with the local expert support and facilities provided by the Field Centre. The FSC offers leisure and professional training courses covering virtually every aspect of learning about the countryside, its wildlife and the environment. Over 30 courses. wildlife and taxonomy courses include plant identification, tree identifcation and mammal ecology. Art courses include watercolour and digital photography.
