Stained glass art is beautiful and historic, which is commonly associated with heritage buildings. Traditionally, the vivid colours are created by mixing metal oxide powders with sand and ash and melting the mixture to form coloured glass. When sunlight filters through the glass, it casts rich, vibrant hues into the space, transforming the atmosphere and creating a truly unique experience.

Our stained glass art courses offer a hands-on introduction to this inspiring craft. Set in the stunning natural surroundings of our centres, these courses draw on the beauty of local landscapes and wildlife for creative inspiration. Whether new to stained glass art or looking to develop your skills further, our courses provide a welcoming space to learn and create.

Stained glass as a medium involves various techniques, such as:

  • Cutting and breaking up glass.
  • Sandblasting
  • Plating
  • Leading and soldering fragments together
  • Gilding
  • Cementing and finishing techniques.

Some stained glass art requires specialist equipment, so it can be difficult for beginners to start. Joining one of our courses can be a great way to get started and a great opportunity to have a go.

More than just an opportunity to learn, our stained glass workshops are a chance to connect with like-minded people, unwind from the busy pace of everyday life, and enjoy the stunning location of our Flatford Mill centre.
