Delivered by expert tutors with extensive experience of working with AS Level students, the FSC not only offers geography students the chance to fulfill the fieldwork requirements of their AS Level, but they will also build confidence in their ability to apply this to examination scenarios and can reinforce their foundation of conceptual knowledge in inspirational settings. If students are going on to study Geography at A Level, our courses will provide an excellent foundation of enquiry skills and locational contexts for geographical concepts, as a springboard for independent research. All courses are thoroughly designed and planned around the specification of your Awarding Organisation.

  • Complete fieldwork requirements for AS Level students within physical and human environments
  • Within the investigation sequence, skills workshops will enable your students to develop skills examined across the AS Level and apply their learning to fieldwork-based exam scenarios.

Example Timetable

This example timetable for a 1 day AS Level field course features:

  • Focus on a single topic, giving geographical and locational context at an inspiring site, local to the centre
  • Your group may meet a tutor at the field site or in the centre, in discussion with centre staff in advance of your visit or as required logistically
  • A focus on introducing the location and geographical themes, planning an investigation, method choice, adaptation, justification and evaluation skills
  • Tutor guidance throughout the session to support skill development and guidance on how the skills might apply to examination scenarios

Day 1

  • Morning: Introduction to the centre. Introduction to the enquiry topic: refining focus and investigation aims, exploration of the locational context. E.g. Investigating Coastal landscapes and processes at the local coastline, deciding study locations. Departure to field site
  • Afternoon: Complete fieldwork practice. Return to centre. Skills workshop to review part of dataset, depending on data collected and school preferences (in discussion with centre staff in advance of the trip E.g. Quantitative data presentation and statistical analysis skills Depart centre at 16.00
