Family Marine Explorers Weekend

This weekend is designed to encourage families to explore the amazing sights that the marine environment has to offer. From coastal cliffs to sandy beaches, wildlife spotting and even a boat trip, there’s something of interest for all the family!

Whether you have a young Attenborough in the making or have a more general interest in marine conservation, we promise a memorable experience and many long lasting family memories. All you need is some sturdy footwear and an explorers attitude!

This course is suitable for children age 5 – 12 years old. For a full list of activities, see our timetable below. Children should be accompanied by a guardian on all activities.

If your child will be under the age of three on time of arrival, please select the ‘Infant’ booking option so they can attend for free!

The terrain can be difficult in some places with uneven ground along the coastal path. Sturdy footwear will be required along small cliffy walks and sandy beaches. Sturdy footwear and waterproofs on hand will be required.

Day 1

Arrival

Campfire introduction & meet the team.

Day 2

A full-day excursion to Newborough and Ynys Llanddwyn/ Boat trip: Take a walk through Newborough forest and dune system over to Ynys Llanddwyn (Llanddwyn Island). Discover rock pool creatures and take part in some seal spotting while learning about local myths and legends. After a fantastic morning at Llanddwyn we will then head over to Beaumaris for a famous puffin island wildlife cruise in the search for dolphins and puffins as well as many other important local sea birds.

Evening: A microscope session to take a closer look at some microscopic marine species.

Day 3

A full-day excursion to Point Lynas and a coastal walk: Spend the day whale and dolphin spotting on the beautiful North Anglesey coast. We will spend some time looking out to sea from the vantage point of the lighthouse where harbour porpoise, grey seals, rissos dolphins and many species of seabird are regularly sighted. After a picnic lunch, we will walk along the famous North Wales Coastal Path to discover some local history and marine conservation projects.

Day 4

Roundup and farewell

We will spend the morning taking part in some art, practicing wildlife journalling and scientific specimen drawing before saying our goodbyes and heading off home after a fantastic weekend.
