Field Studies Council: Bringing Environmental Understanding to All

At Malham Tarn, all our food is prepared using fresh, seasonal ingredients with the emphasis on providing healthy and hearty meals for all of our guests. We use reputable suppliers who provide ingredients of the highest quality and offer a variety of wholesome meals including a vegetarian option. We make homemade cakes daily which are delicious to eat as an afternoon snack. We strive to maintain the high standards of our five star food hygiene rating at all times. If you have any special food requirement please let a member of staff know before you arrive at the Centre. Don’t forget to bring a lunch box and a flask for any day trips out.

We believe at Malham Tarn that all our guests should feel welcome and at home, particularly our younger guests who can feel vulnerable if it’s their first time away from loved ones.  We strive to achieve the best and that’s why we have friendly staff that are always on hand to help.

Malham Tarn Field Centre is located in the secluded Yorkshire Dales National Park; we sit right on the shore of Malham Tarn itself, with cliffs, woodlands and caves nearby.

We have three spectacular buildings all with their own characteristics. The main building is the Tarn House, with North Wing set behind the main house across a courtyard and High Stables a short walk through the estate.

Altogether we can house up to ninety people. The accommodation available ranges from seven bed bunk rooms to twin rooms with some en suite facilities available. We have a disabled access room, including an ensuite wet room in High Stables. All of the bedrooms are cosy, clean and comfortable with wardrobes, desk and chair and recycling bins.

Downstairs in Tarn House we have a spacious staff sitting room which has a television and a telescope so you can see the beautiful clear starry skies over the Tarn. There are two common rooms, one in Tarn House with a television and DVD player so don’t forget to bring your DVDs. (Especially Harry Potter – The Deathly Hallows Part 1 as some of the scenes were filmed around Malham Cove.) The second common room is located in the High Stables, along with the bar which is only open for adult groups. We have two dining rooms in Tarn House both spacious and light, a library full of educational books and a tuck shop in North Wing where you can buy a range of drinks, snacks and souvenirs.

We have five classrooms altogether, one of which can be used as a conference room. All have interactive whiteboards and WiFi access. Multimedia project facilities are also available along with iPads and laptops.

The bedrooms, along with several other rooms mentioned, can be seen on our Virtual Tour page.
