This course is for young people aged between 16 and 18 years old with a sense of adventure.
Join us for Adventures in Eryri (Snowdonia). Do you have a love for adventure, the great outdoors, and have an interest in working to conserve it, then read on.

Throughout the week, you will take part in a variety of activities to discover and explore the National Park and surrounding areas with like-minded peers.

Challenges might include climbing, gorge scrambling, mountain trekking, canoeing and an overnight camping expedition. A key aspect of the residential will be your conservation day, where you will conduct work to conserve an area within Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park.

This course is suitable for the residential section of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Always check with your leader before booking.

Example Timetable

Day 1

Arrive for 1200
Evening - Team building challenges, introductions and welcome tour of the centre

Day 2

Morning -  Land-based activity
Rock Climbing or Ghyll Scrambling
Afternoon - Trekking through nearby mountains and wild spaces
Evening - Establish camp and set up for the evening, sharing stories and socialising.

Day 3

Morning - Pack up camp and continue walking through the countryside and mountains.
Afternoon - Bushcraft activities in the centre grounds or local woodland.
Evening - Mammal and moth trapping

Day 4

Morning - We will see what we have caught overnight in the humane mammal and moth traps.
Late morning/afternoon - Conservation Day: We will be working in partnership with the Snowdonia National Park Authority to carry out conservation tasks for the benefit of others. This will involve clearing an area and working to combat local invasive species.
Evening - There will be evening orienteering or nightline

Day 5

Morning - Exploration of the mountains and environment
Scrambling, rock climbing or gorge scrambling.
Afternoon - Final review
Reflection and farewells to your new friends
Depart at 1500

Before You Attend

This residential is only open to young people who will be aged 16 - 18 years old at the time of attending.   

We want to ensure participants get to share their experience with those of a similar age. Please consider what age the attendee will be on the course date you choose and check they fit in the age category for that date when booking. (Please see each individual course at the bottom of this page for age ranges).

When you book, it is essential that you enter the age and attendees name in the Order Notes at the checkout.  If the attendee is under 18, the booking must be made by a parent/guardian.

When attending the residential dates which welcome 16-18 year olds, all participants will be expected to follow the behaviour and conduct rules which will be in place to safeguard young people.

Prior to the course, you will receive the following:

  • A full kit list. Any technical equipment required will be provided so you will just need typical kit for a residential stay and being outdoors.
  • An introduction to the staff delivering the course and information about the centre so you know what to expect on arrival.
  • A detailed itinerary for the course, including arrival and departure instructions. On some courses there may be the opportunity to book a train station pick up and/or drop off.
  • A link to an online photo consent form.
  • The expectations of young people attending our courses.
  • A form to share any specific dietary or medical needs.
