Explore Epping Forest: Fungi Walk

There are thousands of species of fungi in the natural world from the common to the rare.

Most of the year they live underground and are vital for woodland health as they recycle nutrients in the ecosystem. We see them when the fruiting bodies form ‘mushrooms’. Join us as we discover the wonderful world of fungi in all shapes and sizes. Please note we will not be collecting fungi or foraging and this event is about the natural environment, and will not focus on edible fungi.

About the Tutor

Michael Holland

Michael is an educator, gardener, photographer, author and all-round composting nerd! He has a passion for the natural world and Epping Forest. Michael had a 25-year career at the Chelsea Physic Garden in London, latterly as Head of Education for over 17 years. He is both a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London and of the London Environmental Educators’ Forum (LEEF). He has appeared on a number of television and radio shows and podcasts about plants. Michael’s first book, I Ate Sunshine for Breakfast, provides an inspiring and accessible introduction to the wonderful world of plants and how they are relevant to our lives.
