Moths guide

The FSC Day flying moths guide features 103 species which fly in the daytime in Britain and Ireland.

Although most moths fly at night, a good number are active during the day. Warm still days are best. You can see flying moths simply by walking around likely habitats. Resting moths can be found by gently tapping leaves and flowers. We have included a few very common species that are are regularly disturbed from vegetation.

Our moths identification chart consists of 8 fold-out pages featuring full-colour illustrations, making the identification of day-flying moths easy to follow. There’s a further moth identification guide on the reverse side, with a text description of the characteristics of each species.

Five of the smaller micro-moths which are commonly encountered, are also shown. Except where indicated, all are shown life size, though it should be remembered that sizes may vary according to habitats. Numbers are given in brackets in the text for those species which are illustrated overleaf.

Our popular wildlife field guides measure 24.5cmx17.5cm and are extremely lightweight so are the perfect identification aid for popping in your bag when heading outside. All wildlife identification guides are laminated, meaning they are showerproof for use outside. and can be wiped clean.
