Transform young lives

Your business to grow the popular biodiversity career development programme, the Young Darwin Scholarship (YDS).
Success will engage people aged 16-25 who are passionate about natural history, but feel isolated.

YDS is highly respected by the environmental sector. There is proven demand, but our charity can only support 1 in 4 young people from over 300 applications.

The Field Studies Council’s costs are based on a decade of experience running YDS. The costs include an immersive five-day training course for new scholars and their pro-active support for three years.

Costs per scholar is £950 to £1,400, depending on the scale of each year’s network and donations received.

Our preference is sponsorship for groups of 15 scholars.

Connect disadvantaged children with nature

Your business can enable children and young people access outdoor education by growing the Grants for Schools programme (GFS).
Success will give 5-18 year olds life changing experiences in inspiring landscapes. GFS transforms academic performance, confidence, and life skills. We make nature accessible by reducing the cost of fieldwork courses to parents and schools.

Our charity can only support 1 in 5 applications to GFS. We prioritise disadvantaged schools and those sustaining their environmental education. Each grant helps 30 people on average.

The Field Studies Council’s costs are based on the number of grants we give to schools. The costs are £300 per day course and £2,500 per residential course.

Our preference in sponsorship for groups of 10 grants to support 300 people.

Remove barriers for young people

Your business can give young people biodiversity resources and courses they need for a green career, but can’t access.

Success will upskill people aged 18-25 in need. This includes important habitat surveys required for new Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.

There is huge demand. The Field Studies Council was far over-subscribed in 2021/22 when we offered 1,000 young people training as part of our national ‘Generation Green’ project.

The Field Studies Council’s costs are based on the number of subsidies for in-person and online training courses, plus related biodiversity guides. Subsidies range from £30-100 each.

Our preference is sponsorship for groups of 100 subsidies.
