The seasons are changing and as we move into spring, it’s clear to see nature is waking and warming up with the sight of daffodils, snowdrops and butterflies.
The return of colour to our natural world after a cold and wet winter is so uplifting and motivational for the year ahead. Spring is about to bloom and it’s the perfect time to be awakened by nature, it’s sure to get those creative juices flowing.
We have a fantastic range of art and craft workshops coming up this spring that encourage you to take inspiration from the natural world and develop your skills in a fun and creative way.
Woodland: The Natural World in Ink and Coloured Pencil

This weekend course is a fantastic opportunity for those wanting to develop their skills in capturing the beauty of the natural world without the need for fancy or expensive art materials. Popular tutor, Helen Hanson, has taught at Flatford Mill for a number of years and offers participants a unique insight into her creative mark-making techniques.
Try your hand at embossing and ‘lifting out’ to really bring nature to life on paper and see how vibrant coloured pencils can be when drawing inspiration from the woodland environment.
Easter Wreaths

Easter is just around the corner and more and more people are opting to adorn their homes and front doors with decorative wreaths to celebrate. Artist, Jeni Bate, will be delivering her Easter wreath workshop to budding weavers and beginners wanting to create something unique from natural and locally sourced materials.
Easter wreaths can be adorned with seasonal flowers and foliage and even a few natural easter themed decorations that will really make your wreath stand out from the crowd.
Wreath weaving is a wonderful mindfulness activity and the experience is even better when shared with friends and family.
Modern Botanicals in Watercolour

Spring is a great time to have a go at botanical illustration as the natural world starts to bloom. Take inspiration from the season with tutor Sue Bedford. She will be your perfect guide to the art of modern botanical painting.
This day workshop gives you the opportunity to be expressive and free with your watercolours, you’ll learn how to create loose and energetic paintings.
Watercolours really are the ideal medium for identifying the multi tones of the UK’s native spring floral species, so lose yourself in the colours of spring.
Plant Pressing and Oshibana Pictures

Flower and plant pressing has been used as an art form for over a thousand years and for scientific study since the 16th century. This unique course offers you insight into this traditional craft but also offers the opportunity to create your very own press so you can continue your newly found hobby at home.
Once you’ve mastered the art of pressing, you’ll be able to create your very own oshibana pictures, which is a 16th century Japanese art form which is now practiced worldwide.
Spring is the start of new life in the natural world, so if you’d like to get creative while nature comes back to life, join us on one of our many different art and craft workshops this year.
