Come and join us for a guided bat walk through Beckenham Place Park. You’ll learn more about bats and have the opportunity to use bat detectors to identify species as we explore.
This session is the pilot project called Queer Nature Network with the goal of creating a queer community for those aged 18 – 30 years old with an interest in nature. We aim to get queer people from across London out, learning and experiencing nature.

The Queer Nature Network project aims to build a community of people who want to reconnect with themselves, make meaningful connections with others and take a break from the pace of city life. This is our first session, come alone or bring a friend, everyone is welcome!
We will meet at the gate of Beckenham Place Park near Beckenham Hill station. From there, we will follow a guided route around the park, looking for native bat species such as common and soprano pipistrelles, noctules, and Daubenton’s bats.
This walk takes place at dusk, when we are most likely to see and hear bats. However, they are not the only creatures active at night, so keep an eye out for other wildlife, including moths, foxes and perhaps even an owl.
As bats are most active in warm, dry conditions, the focus of the walk may shift towards other nocturnal wildlife if the weather is not suitable for bat activity.
