From this self-led course, you will gain an understanding of a range of woodland habitats found in the UK. This course acts as an introduction to different woodland types, allowing you to obtain knowledge of their ecological and conservation value.
Woodlands are among the most biodiverse habitat in the world, yet the UK has one of the lowest levels of woodland cover in Europe. Their existence in the British landscape is shaped by centuries of management, climate and varying soil types, ranging from Ancient Woodland to coniferous plantations.
Understanding woodlands is not only about the species found within them, but also the ecological processes, links to cultural history and identity and management practices that have defined them and ensure their continuation for generations to come.
