This self-led course is designed to give learners an overview of the fundamentals that underpin the biodiversity metric and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG.) On completion, learners will understand key metric terminology and have an awareness of the integral elements to performing BNG calculations including UKHab surveys and condition assessments for which a woodland habitat context will be used.

This is a 3-hour self-led online course covering 3 topics. Each topic will contain a number of self-led resources to work through at your own pace. The topics covered include:

Whether you’re new to Biodiversity Net Gain or have little experience with the metric and condition assessments, this course is tailored to meet your needs. Our goal is to equip you with a basic working knowledge and foster a clear understanding of BNG principles within the specific context of woodland habitats.
By the end of the course, you will:
- Define ‘biodiversity’ and its significance.
- Explain the purpose of the biodiversity metric and its associated processes, including UKHab in habitat surveying.
- Understand how the biodiversity metric is applied to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and the statutory implementation of BNG.
Who Should Attend? – Anyone with little to no knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain who would like to improve their awareness.

Prior Knowledge – No existing knowledge or experience is needed for this course. Just a willingness to learn.
